From the President, Bryan Morris 2011
(from Cattle Call Spring 2019)
It is truly an honor to represent you as your alumni president for the next two years. Thank you for this opportunity to serve, and a huge thanks goes to our outgoing president Wayne Cockrell. Wayne has done an outstanding job representing the alumni over the last two years and I know he will continue to do so. Mr. Cockrell showed his leadership this year by starting a new tradition of introducing the incoming alumni president to the Chancellor of TCU. We had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the program with the Chancellor and share our passion and dedication to the Ranch Management Program. As alumni, it was a great time to establish a relationship with the Chancellor, and I believe this tradition will continue to open many doors for the alumni in the future, as well. Thank you, Wayne, for your leadership and dedication to the program.
I graduated from the program in 2011 and now manage EG Cattle Co., LLC in Fannin County, TX just north of Bonham and 1½ hours northeast of Dallas. We are a traditional cow calf ranch on introduced forages which is vastly different from the stocker cattle area of native pasture and wheat fields that I grew up on in Seymour, TX. I have a lot of passion that I carry with me regarding TCU Ranch Management and I will try to carry over that same passion to my dedication in serving you as your alumni president. TCU RM has given me, and continues to provide, opportunities that would have never been possible if it weren’t for the program, its supporters, and the many scholarships that are available. If we can share one thing with prospective students, it is that the program is affordable for anyone who is willing to put in the effort.
Over the last couple of months I had the opportunity to meet the current class. While just sitting in class for a few minutes it did not take long to see that Ranch Management is still producing the best graduates to go out and lead in whatever profession they are called to. TCU Ranch Management is truly the best program out there to prepare students to manage our resources and lead the cattle industry. I also had the opportunity to see and meet many alumni during Roundup this year, as well as at the TSCRA annual convention held recently in Fort Worth. We had a record breaking crowd attend the reception at the convention Saturday night and it was a great time. Thank your Boehringer Ingelheim representative and Scott Porter, regional sales manager, for sponsoring our reception when you see them. The alumni are really what sets TCU RM apart and it is no surprise that you see so many involved in leadership with organizations like TSCRA. Congratulations to the soon-to-be graduates of this year’s class. Keep up the hard work; you are about to be part of the best and most welcoming group of alumni out there!
Make plans to attend the summer roping and family gathering in San Angelo, TX June 15th. It is a great time for the whole family! Please feel free to contact me anytime and I look forward to serving you as your alumni president.
